Mayor Bach said the fire is very serious, and they are working hard to gain containment.
72 firefighters from Colorado Springs are currently working on the fire. Officials estimate a total of 400 firefighters are on scene. For today, firefighters are focusing on structure protection and holding the fire line.
Last night, the fire was 1,500 acres. Right now, the fire has grown to over 2,000 acres, and is spreading at a quarter to half-mile an hour rate. Firefighters are trying to keep the fire north of Highway 24, while preventing embers from spreading. The fire is currently a quarter mile away from structures.
The weather today is hotter and dryer than yesterday. Also, the wind is still an issue.
Multiple planes and heavy air tankers are being used. Crews are using The Air Force Academy as a base for the planes.
Woodland Park High School and Cheyenne Mountain High School are being used as a base for evacuees. The Red Cross asks people to call 650-9132 when searching for family members.
