Monument Police are investigating the toddler body found Friday at a vacant home as a homicide. Friday afternoon a toddler sized body was found in the basement of a home that was being remodeled in Monument. The contractors working on the home found the body and called Police. "If this is in fact ruled a homicide by the coroner's office to be a homicide, this will be the first homicide in Monument ever." said Monument Police Chief Jacob Shirk.

The news shocked Monument. Neighbors still can't believe something like this could happen in their community. ‘It's upsetting." says Caroline Dinwiddle who lives across the street from the home where the body was found, "It hits too close to home. We have young kids so it's disturbing."

Dinwiddle tell us several families have lived in the duplex and left just as quickly. "It's like we have neighbors one day and the next day they're gone." she says, "There's a lot of turnover in that duplex." An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday morning but the findings of that haven't been released. The home is a duplex located is near Highway 105 and Beacon Lite Road on Century Place. The home is vacant and is on the market for sale.
