UPDATE: Royal Gorge wildfire

CAÑON CITY, Colorado - The Royal Gorge Fire was reported at 1 p.m. Tuesday, south of the Royal Gorge Bridge and Arkansas River. It is estimated at 3800 acres. The fire started on the south side of river and spotted to the north side. The fire is actively burning on BLM, state and private lands.
Mandatory Evacuations are in effect from Parkdale to the Canon City Water treatment plant, north of the Royal Gorge. U.S. Highway 50 is closed in both directions from the Canon City Water treatment plant (1st Street) to Highway 9. Temple Canyon road has also been closed.
The Arkansas River has been closed from Spike Buck through Canon City. The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park has been evacuated.
Resources on scene include: 150 firefighters and Law Enforcement officers from both federal and local departments.
Resources ordered include: 2-Single Engine Airtankers, 1 Heavy Air Tanker, 1-Type 3 Incident Management Team and a Type 2 Management team. The Pueblo Zone type 3 team will take over the management of the fire tonight and the fire will then be transitioned to a Type 2 Management team sometime today.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Falcon school fights to save student's life

FALCON- Aden Knar, a third grade student at Falcon Virtual Academy, is in need of a life-saving bone marrow transplant. His school, Falcon Virtual Academy, will host a bone marrow donor drive tomorrow to help find a match Aden. Knar, 10, was diagnosed at age 4 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and entered remission in 2008. In November 2013, the Knar family learned that the leukemia had returned, and is now isolated in his bone marrow. In an outreach of support, Falcon Virtual Academy hosted a bone marrow donor drive in January, and will be hosting another tomorrow from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 6113 Constitution Ave., directly west of Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado. "We wanted to reach out to the family again," said Jodi Fletcher, assistant principal. Fletcher explained that more than 250 people participated in the January drive, and she hopes to have similar numbers April 19.
