UPDATE: Over night hit and run passenger at hospital

Following our initial report of a traffic accident that occurred near the intersection of Fillmore and Steel Drive just East of I-25, we now have new information to report.

The Colorado Springs Police Department reports that one of the three passengers that was still on scene when officers and emergency crews arrived was transported and treated at a local hospital with a severe head injury as a result of the accident. The injured passenger has been identified as 22 year old Veronica Garcia.

Investigators with the Major Accident Unit are still looking for the driver of the vehicle who also fled the scene.

The investigation revealed the Cadillac was traveling west on Fillmore when it struck the curb and guardrail, and was re-directed back into the oncoming lanes crossing the eastbound travel lanes and struck the southern curb and impacted the post of a bridge guardrail east of the intersection of Fillmore and Mark Dabling.

Police beleive alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the accident.
