The Bureau of Land Management has updated the status of the Royal Gorge Fire as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fire has burned an estimated 3,100 acres and remains at 20% containment. 20 structures have been lost, but the Royal Gorge Bridge remains intact.
The fire remains active in the forests west of Canon City, but right now the city is not considered to be threatened.
Firefighters will stay in the area through the night working to build a fire line and establish anchor points. The fire Incident Commander says good progress was made on the fire today, and they are happy to say there have been no injuries or accidents.
If anyone in the area still needs to shelter livestock, the Royal Gorge Rodeo grounds are available.
There will be a community information meeting held Thursday evening in regards to the fire, more specific information will be passed on about this on Thursday morning.
