Update: Four Mile Canyon fire 50 percent contained

HUERFANO COUNTY- A wildfire on the northwest side of Four Mile Canyon Road is now 50 percent contained. A wildfire broke out yesterday around 12:30 p.m. about 10 miles west of I-25 in the Blackhawk Subdivision.

So far, 15 acres have burned, forcing the evacuation of seven homes in a four mile radius. Firefighters say one home is threatened. A "Code Red" call was sent out to 74 residents in the Blackhawk area overnight.

Winds have decreased and humidity is expected to increase, aiding in the efforts. Crews still do not know what caused the fire, but believe lightning could be a contributing factor.

Five engines are expected to return to the site this morning along with the Juniper Valley Hot Shot crew and Huerfano County Road and Bridge.
