The Las Animas County Sheriff's Office has identified a child killed in a house fire early Wednesday morning near Trinidad.
The fire took place at 9050 CR 45.4 in Segundo, a few miles from Trinidad. The house was occupied by seven people. The boy was identified as six-year-old Emiliano Valverde. According to the Sheriff's Office he was not burned, but died of smoke inhalation.
His aunt, Joann Montano was flown to a hospital with third degree burns. The fire started in the living room, and when she opened the door from a bedroom she was burned. She uses oxygen to aid her breathing.
As of Thursday evening, Montano was listed in critical condition at a hospital in Aurora.
No foul play is suspected. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical problem.
