Update: Man drowns in Brush Hollow Reservoir

Many of us have thought it before; could I make it to the other side?

Friday, crews in Fremont County pulled the body of a young man who tried and didn't make it out of the Brush Hollow Reservoir.

"It drops off as you head out from shore, and it appears that maybe just fatigue," explains Sgt. Don Pinover of the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, talking about how the apparent drowning may have taken place.

The Fremont County Coroner's Office has the body and will confirm the identity.

Andrew Conley says he was making the swim with the young man; they were out with friends.

He says things went wrong and there was nothing he could do.

"We got halfway through the lake, he couldn't breath," Conley explains. "I tried lifting him up out of the water, I was out of breath as well. I had him put his arm around me, trying to take him out of the water," Conley says, "(I) Couldn't get him any farther than I got him."

Conley watched his friend disappear to the bottom.

"Just yesterday we were hanging out," Conley says. "Today it's something different."

The young man is believed to be from Colorado Springs and in his early 20's, no official word on the identity.

Fremont County emergency crews recovered the body of a man reported missing at Brush Hollow Reservoir near Penrose earlier Friday afternoon.

Brush Hollow is a water storage facility for Penrose.  It is located west of Highway 115 and north of Highway 50.

The man is believed to be in his early 20s and from Colorado Springs.  A friend, Andrew Conley of Canon City reported they were swimming and his friend may have gotten cramps.  So far the identity of the man who died has not been released.
