UPDATE: Drunk driving victim not mad at suspect

It could take 8 months for Janice Krich, 54, to fully recover from injuries she sustained when she was run down by a suspected drunk driver last week.

It was just before 2:00am when a driver swerved into a construction zone barrel on Woodmen and then into Krich.

"All I remember is that just one barrel coming at me, raising my hands in the air saying 'Ahhh!' And that's it.  All I remember," Krich says she only remembers waking up later in the hospital in a lot of pain.

But less than a week later she's out of the hospital and her quick recovery has amazed friends and hospital employees.  Her lower right leg is completely  shattered, "doctor said it's the worst fracture he's ever seen."

In the accident she was thrown 60 feet and also suffered a head injury and bruises all over her body.

Police say the suspect, Dustin Thompson, 22, got out of his car and then got back in and drove off.  They caught him a few blocks away.

Krich says she feels sorry for driver.  She says she will recover, but he may have ruined his life.

"I think everybody makes some mistakes. I really think he ought to get punished and serve a little time, so he understands what he did, and I'd really like to meet him and talk to him," she said.

More to come here and on News First 5 at 5 and 6 tonight.
