Colorado Springs Police say a construction worker was hit working in the Academy and Woodmen construction zone just before 2 a.m. Wednesday.
The worker is a 54 year old woman. She was taken to a nearby hospital with a fractured leg and a possible skull fracture.
The driver that hit her entered the construction zone between two barricades. He initially drove off, but was caught a few blocks away at Vickers and Academy. Police say the 22 year old driver hit the worker, got out of his car and looked at the scene, then drove away. He was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood test. He's being charged with DUI and vehicular assault.
Southbound Academy at Woodmen was closed for the investigation, but it has just reopened to traffic.
