El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa and Black Forest Fire Incident Commander Rich Harvey held a press briefing to report progress on the fire fight Saturday evening. They say the fire is now 55% contained after a positive day on the front lines. The Sheriff's Office is also planning to allow more evacuated residents in their homes starting at 8p.m. Saturday. Those areas include High Forest Ranch, and all areas north of Hodgen Rd. and west of Black Forest Rd., and areas north of Walker Rd. Residents in these area will be considered in a pre-evacuation zone.
Sheriff Maketa says they also plan to open Hwy. 83 to traffic between 8:30p.m. and 9:00p.m.
New home assessments also show 483 homes as a total loss, 3,338 that were unaffected in the burn zone, and 17 that were partially damaged.
