University of Nebraska president apologizes to governor over cancer research center funding

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The president of the University of Nebraska is apologizing to Gov. Dave Heineman over questions about the funding of a $370 million cancer research center in Omaha.
Heineman has insisted that he supported committing $50 million in state money for the project with the understanding that that no local tax dollars would be used.
The governor had expressed surprise that the center would also use $40 million in tax revenue from Omaha and Douglas County.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports Tuesday that University of Nebraska President J.B. Milliken acknowledged the university's statements to Heineman weren't always clear and that he "personally apologized to him for any misunderstanding."
In a statement, Heineman says he accepts Milliken's apology.
