University of Colorado uses sun to power buildings

Three buildings on the University of Colorado-Boulder campus are being powered by the sun, thanks to 272 newly installed solar panels.
The panels are atop the Coors Event Center, where the CU basketball teams play, the Wolf Law Building and the housing system's maintenance center. The panels are expected to generate a total of 140,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough for 20 medium-sized houses.
The university received the panels for free through a partnership with Rockwell Financial Group of Centennial. Rockwell will receive a one-time, $200,000 rebate from Xcel Energy as part of the program that helps the utility meet a state mandate requiring utilities to increase use of renewable energy.
Rockwell will sell the electricity to Xcel Energy.
