University of Colorado suspends course requirement to save money

The University of Colorado in Boulder is suspending a course requirement to save money.
CU is abandoning its "critical thinking" course requirement for some undergraduates. The university says it could save $200,000 a year by suspending the requirement for students in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Currently the school offers 150 of the critical thinking courses that are capped at 25 students.
CU says many of the courses will remain, but that they could have more students and may be taught by instructors rather than faculty members.
The CU system faces a $29 million shortfall in state funds this year. University officials say many courses already engage students in "critical thinking" skills.
