More on School District 70's plan to shift to a 4-day school week this fall. Some parents in Pueblo County say they will take their students elsewhere. Some private schools say they've been getting calls from parents.
News First 5 looked at options for parents. The McClelland School and St. Therese Catholic school charge tuition, but say they can offer parents smaller class sizes and the schools are ready to grow.
Pueblo City Schools has room and in fact has already enrolled a few transfer students. However, they say they empathize with D-70 and aren't recruiting students from the county. "It's not something we're aggressively pursuing. We feel their pain and I know we're going to be feeling our pain here very soon, when we start our budget cutting process," said Greg Sinn, Pueblo City Schools spokesperson.
Charter schools are another option. Swallows Academy in Pueblo West says there's only room at the high school level. Cesar Chavez Academy says it has openings in most grade levels at CCA and Dolores Huerta Preparatory High.
