Colorado's senior senator is joining an effort to repeal the military's ban on openly gay service members.
Sen. Mark Udall planned to join other Democrats Wednesday in proposing a repeal of a 1993 law banning gay servicemen and women.
Top Pentagon officials and the White House have called for an end to the ban. A proposal to change the policy is pending in the U.S. House, and Udall is co-sponsoring a similar bill in the Senate.
In a statement, Udall called the ban on gay service members "outdated."
