DENVER (AP) - Democratic Sen Mark Udall and his Republican challenger are clashing over immigration issues.
Udall's campaign released a statement Wednesday demanding that Rep. Cory Gardner elaborate on his immigration stance. Gardner last week said he favors citizenship for people here illegally who join the military but wouldn't say who else should get citizenship. Udall's campaign asked what the congressman would do for those service members' family members if they are also here illegally.
Gardner's campaign shot back by noting Udall had voted for a bill in 2005 that would have made being in the U.S. illegally a felony. At the time, Udall said he supported the border security provisions of the measure but not the criminal part. Udall voted for a Senate bill last year to legalize many immigrants here illegally.
