Following a formal request from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base activated the Defense Coordinating Officer and Defense Coordinating Element for FEMA Region VII today in support of response efforts to flooding in Nebraska.

Elements of the military were activated to provide assessment and coordinate Department of Defense assets to be utilized in Nebraska following severely swollen river basins as a result of melting higher than average snow pack.

The Department of Defense has capabilities that can be used to save lives as well as many other unique support capabilities such as air lift, medical, communications, and catastrophic planning.
