Sunday afternoon, 10-year-old Liane Maez was walking her yorkie mix, Shy, around the block when two large dogs got out of their yard and attacked her dog.
"I turned back to my dog and the next thing I knew, there were two dogs coming after her and I didn't know what to do," says a tearful Maez. "They just came after my dog."
The attack happened on Florence Avenue in the Stratton Meadows neighborhood. Shy died shortly after the attack. The Humane Society will do testing to confirm exactly how the dog died.
The Humane Society's animal control officer confirms the dogs that attacked were pit bulls. The Humane Society has taken one of the pit bulls. The owner will have to appear in court on a charge of owning dangerous dogs.
Liane's uncle says he's glad Shy was with Liane on the walk.
"It would have been her instead of the dog," says Charles Wheeler.
