Two killed in head on collision in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- Colorado Springs Police confirm two people have died after a head-on collision this evening.

That crash happened along the Martin Luther King Bypass at Circle, just east of downtown. Both lanes of westbound MLK remain closed at this hour. One lane of eastbound traffic is open. Investigators say it may be another hour to an hour and a half before traffic is running smoothly again.

Springs Police tell us it appears a gray four-door Toyota was traveling eastbound on the MLK, and crossed the center median into the westbound lanes. The Toyota then hit a maroon Buick, which was traveling westbound in the left through lane.

Both vehicles received major damage. The female driver of the Toyota, and lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the driver and front seat passenger of the Buick were transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

None of the people involved in the accident have been identified at this hour.
