Two infants hospitalized with flu

Two infants have been hospitalized with influenza in El Paso County, according to the El Paso County Department of Health and Environment.
"We expect to see an increase in flu activity throughout the holidays and encourage everyone to get vaccinated and be conscientious about practicing flu prevention behaviors. These reported hospitalizations serve as a reminder of the seriousness of flu especially in infants," said Bernadette Albanese, M.D., medical director of the Health Department.
The health department recommends:
- Get vaccinated against flu!
- Stay home if you are sick with flu symptoms. Keep your children home if they are showing signs of illness. You should not return to work or school until 24 hours after a fever ends without the help of fever-reducing medicines.
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue or a sleeve.
- Stay away from others who are sick.
The flu vaccine is recommended for anyone older than 6 months and especially those who are at high risk for flu complications, or those who care for high risk individuals.
