Two hospitalized with West Nile in Larimer County

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado health officials say the West Nile virus has now infected at least three residents this season, including two in Larimer County.

Larimer County health officials said Wednesday that one person from north of Loveland and one from south of Fort Collins are hospitalized, one with encephalitis and one with meningitis. They were believed to have been infected during the second week of July.

State health officials previously reported a Delta County resident developed West Nile virus fever but recovered.

The identities of the Larimer County patients weren't disclosed. Last week, House Minority Leader Brian DelGrosso said former state Rep. Ken Summers was hospitalized with encephalitis in Loveland.

Larimer County health officials are recommending measures including spraying for mosquitoes in densely populated areas in the county to prevent infections.
