A Canon City man and his girlfriend have been arrested following a six month investigation into more than 20 burglaries of storage units and businesses over a 21 month period.
Timothy Roath, 29, and his girlfriend, Audrey Urban, 46, were arrested August 23 and are being held in the Fremont County Detention Center.
Roath and Urban are believed to be responsible for well over 20 burglaries of storage units and businesses the past 21 months in Fremont, Custer and Chaffee counties. In May 2012, detectives recovered approximately $200,000 worth of stolen property from two large self storage units in Fremont County. After spending hundreds of hours inventorying and trying to identify owners of the stolen items, detectives were able to return only $20,000 worth of the confiscated goods back to owners who had filed police reports. Recovered property included motorcycles, a trailer mounted welder, tools, sporting goods, electronics, firearms, collectables and household goods. Roath is believed to have already disposed of thousands of dollars of stolen property when detectives discovered his stash.
With over $180,000 worth of recovered items still unclaimed, detectives ask that anyone who has a storage unit in Fremont or surrounding counties, check their property and report any missing items to their local law enforcement. Victims who have filed a police report may contact Detective Lopez at 719-276-5620 for information on viewing property which might belong to them.
