COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- A car stolen, with a young child in the backseat. Colorado Springs Police arrest two people, but they had nothing to do with the car theft or kidnapping.
Police say Michael Morlang parked the car at a 7-11 on South Union to make a withdrawal from the ATM. Justina Perez, the passenger, followed Morlang into the store. The keys were left in the ignition.
At this point, police say it appears the car was then stolen by an unidentified suspect.
About a half hour later, the car was found on Whitman Road. The child was inside, asleep and unharmed.
Both Morlang and Perez are under arrest. Morlang is facing charges of attempting to influence a public official, child abuse and an outstaning warrant. Perez is charged with obstruction and child abuse. Police say she also had multiple outstanding warrants.
The stolen vehicle belongs to the child's mother, Tayanna White-Morlang, who has been reunited with the child. Police say she was not involved in leaving the child inside the car with the keys in the ignition.
