GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - The University of Northern Colorado's new budget includes an average 13 percent tuition increase for undergraduate students.

The UNC board of trustees approved the $190 million budget Friday. The Greeley Tribune reports the budget includes nearly $7 million in higher revenue from tuition increases for in-state students and $2 million in increases for out-of-state students.

Trustee Richard Gast says the higher tuition hits many middle-class students the most, but the economy is driving the decision.

Colleges across Colorado are raising tuition as the state cuts funds for higher education due to slumping revenue.
