Tuesday Weather: Warm & Still Smoky

A Red Flag Warning is in effect today for El Paso, Fremont, Custer, western Huerfano, and western Las Animas counties from noon until 9 PM.

A persistent wind flowing from southwest to northeast continues across the Four Corners around the southeast quadrant of a large low pressure area over the Pacific Northwest. That flow from the southwest will continue transporting smoke from fires in Arizona across Colorado today, so the smoky haze and the smoky smell will still be evident.

Today will be breezy again. The wind will be blowing from the west/southwest at 25-35 mph with gusts to as high as 50 mph. Temperatures will likely warm even more than they did yesterday with highs reaching into the 80's and 90's and nearing 100 for areas of the Southeastern Plains.

Tomorrow will be breezy again, and the warm breeze from the southwest could very well carry more smoke from the Arizona fires into Colorado. The warmth will begin to relax tomorrow, we and will cool even more on Thursday and Friday when an upslope breeze behind a cold front adds some clouds to the sky to help block the sun. Another cold front on Saturday will mean quick warming followed by cooling with showers and thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday.
