Trinidad State Junior College offers several degrees and certificates in nursing including RN, LPN and CNA.

The college graduated 24 nursing students this spring, up from 19 in 2009.

Nursing programs are notoriously tough to get into in the Colorado Springs-Pueblo areas, with more applicants than slots for students at community colleges and universities alike. Trinidad State Junior College is taking applications for fall enrollment.

Nursing is touted as a recession-proof occupation, as baby boomers become senior citizens.

According to PayScale.com, an RN can expect to make $46,000 - $67,000 per year.
