Three individuals claiming to be kidnapped were found this week in Fremont County west of Canon City.
20-year old Stephanie Wynn, 22-year old Tyshia Cameron-Penwell and 22-year old Jesse Shaeffer told Fremont County Deputies they were kidnapped in Wichita,Kansas on Sunday and driven to Salida when they escaped and were trying to get back to Kansas
The Fremont County Sheriff's Office said the trio was found near Cotopaxi on Highway 50 after the truck they were driving ran out of gas. It is unknown why they never called police after their escape.
Deputies immediately notified Salida police, who located the suspect, 30-year old Stanley Danford III of Wichita, and took him into custody.
According to the victims, they were all at a motel in Wichita on Sunday when they were confronted by Wynn's ex-boyfriend, Danford, who was armed with a knife, and a second, unidentified, male suspect, who was armed with a gun.
Danford allegedly struck both Wynn and Shaeffer, knocking Wynn unconscious before forcing all three victims into the pickup. During the trip to Colorado, Danford threw Wynn's shoes out the window to prevent her from escaping and repeatedly threatened her with a knife.
Danford is being held in the Chaffee County Jail on a no bond hold on charges of Aggravated Kidnapping and Aggravated Battery in Wichita.
