A coal train derailed Friday morning in Chesapeake, Virginia, leaving its engine dangling off a bridge.

The train apparently failed to stop as it approached a bridge over the intercoastal waterway. Coast Guard officials rushed to the scene and closed the area surrounding the waterway.

About 1,500 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from the engine into the waterway.

The engineer was able to make it out safely. There were no injuries.
