Jim Tracy has been named Sporting News' 2009 Manager of the Year for the National League in his first year at the helm of the Colorado Rockies.

Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia received the award in the American League in voting by a panel of 22 Major League Baseball managers.

Tracy took over from Clint Hurdle midseason on May 29, when the club was 18-28. The Rockies finished 92-70, setting a franchise record for wins and earning the NL wild card. Tracy joined the team as a bench coach Nov. 24. He previously was a manager for Pittsburgh and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
