Toys For Tots comes to Fremont County

Some places are gearing up for the season of giving.

Fremont County will have its very own Toys For Tots drive for the first time ever.

The Marine Corps Reserve sponsors the campaign. There will be 13 drop-off sites throughout the county.

"It's a really, really good thing to give a kid a toy. Our motto is 'every child deserves a little Christmas,'" said Carl Clink, Fremont County Toys For Tots Organizer.

The campaign will officially kick off at the Christmas Parade in Cañon City on December 7th.

Clink says they are accepting names of children in need of toys. You can send the names to fremontcountytoysfortots@yahoo.com

To drop off toys, here are the locations:

-Alco, 1711 Fremont Dr.

-Cañon City Daily Record, 701 S. Ninth St. 

-Mugs Coffee Cafe, 1520 Royal Gorge Blvd.

-Pizza Madness, 509 Main St.

-16th Street Cafe, 302 N. 16th St. Suite A

-Walgreens, 1609 Fremont Drive

-U.S. Army Recruiting Station, 107 S. Ninth St. Suite A

-U.S. Navy Recruiting Office, 105 S. Ninth St.

Falcon school fights to save student's life

FALCON- Aden Knar, a third grade student at Falcon Virtual Academy, is in need of a life-saving bone marrow transplant. His school, Falcon Virtual Academy, will host a bone marrow donor drive tomorrow to help find a match Aden. Knar, 10, was diagnosed at age 4 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and entered remission in 2008. In November 2013, the Knar family learned that the leukemia had returned, and is now isolated in his bone marrow. In an outreach of support, Falcon Virtual Academy hosted a bone marrow donor drive in January, and will be hosting another tomorrow from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 6113 Constitution Ave., directly west of Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado. "We wanted to reach out to the family again," said Jodi Fletcher, assistant principal. Fletcher explained that more than 250 people participated in the January drive, and she hopes to have similar numbers April 19.
