Toddler struggles to recover from near drowning

Two year old Connor Kuczborski's favorite words are "truck" and "outside." He was outside with his mom Dorit White on Saturday at their home in the Black Forest when he wandered away from her.

"I started going behind the house, then around the barn and then I went everywhere a bunch of times and I couldn't find him. I started calling my neighbors," she said. "It seemed like it was forever."

When she reached the pond, she found Connor floating in the water.

"I started pushing his chest and there was water coming out and I tried to breathe him and I tried to call 911."

The dispatcher walked her through CPR, and when paramedics arrived, they rushed the child to Memorial Hospital. Connor is still in critical condition and doctors are closely monitoring his brain activity.

As they hope for Connor's quick recovery, Dorit urges parents to realize how quickly danger can strike.

"Try to consider all these little things, put the locks on the door and you know watch all the little things," she said.

The Connor Care Fund has been set up at Key Bank to help the family defray the cost of medical expenses. Donations can be made at any local branch. They will also be made via PayPal by using the email address careforconnor@gmail.com.
