CHAFFEE COUNTY - Troopers with the Colorado State Patrol are investigating a traffic accident in which a tractor trailer carrying cattle partially rolled along U.S. Highway 50. The accident happened at around 2:10 p.m. about two miles east of Salida.

The driver, 55-year-old Walter James of Manzanola, was headed east out of Salida in a 2000 Peterbilt semi when troopers say he took a curve too quickly. The truck veered off the right side of the road and rolled over onto its right side.

In all, 72 cattle had to be off-loaded into smaller livestock trailers, leaving the highway closed for about an hour and a half. James was not injured in the crash.
