COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado College took an early lead and coasted to a 3-2 win over second-ranked Denver on Friday, denying the Pioneers a chance to take over first place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Archie Skalbeck, William Rapuzzi and Alexander Krushelnyski staked the Tigers (16-12-1, 10-9-0) to a 3-1 lead after two periods. Colorado College improved to 15-0-1 when leading going into the third period.

Denver (16-6-5, 12-4-3) entered the game one point behind idle North Dakota. It is tied with Minnesota-Duluth for second place after UMD's 2-2 tie with Minnesota.

The Tigers' first two goals came 56 seconds apart in the first period. It was the seventh time this season they have scored multiple goals in less than a minute.

Kyle Ostrow made it a one-goal game with a power-play goal with 23 seconds left.

The home-and-home series concludes Saturday at Denver.
