Thunderstorms possible today, especially in high elevations

A few early morning showers will likely fade away through mid-morning, but more showers will begin developing in the mountains west of I-25 beginning around 12:00-2:00. Only isolated showers will be around along I-25 through late afternoon, and the Plains likely will not even see the isolated activity. After about 3-4 PM and continuing through the evening, showers & thunderstorms will be able to move out of the mountains to the Palmer Divide. That includes areas around Colorado Springs. Sufficient moisture is present in the atmosphere that flash flooding could be a concern around Waldo Canyon and Manitou Springs again today. Today is a good day to be weather aware and be ready to take action if flash flooding occurs.

Before the showers break away from the mountains, temperatures will max out in the mid-to-upper 80's on the Palmer Divide, including Colorado Springs. Along the Arkansas Valley, more areas are likely to miss out on the rain, especially east of Florence and Penrose. That's where temperatures will warm into the middle and upper 90's, including areas like Pueblo, La Junta, and Springfield. Still, these areas could see a stray shower this afternoon, and if that materializes temperatures will come down a bit and the wind will kick up in the vicinity of any showers.
