Look for some new faces and new wrinkles in the Air Force Falcons offense this Saturday as they kick off the 2012 Season hosting Idaho State.
The ground game that relied heavily on tailback Asher Clark in 2012 will start the season with what players are calling a 3-headed monster. The trio is made up of seniors Wes Cobb, (a converted fullback) and Cody Gentz and sophomore Jon Lee.
Cobb was part of a tandem at full back in 2011 with Mike Dewitt and says he likes the idea of surprising opposing defenses.
"Last year it was me and Mike at fullback being a two headed monster, you know, it could possibly be a three headed monster at tailback with all three of us, especially the way this offense rolls," Cobb said.
The 2012 season will also be Connor Dietz first full season as starting quarterback. Coach Troy Calhoun says Dietz has grown a lot since last year.
"Probably down after down, seeing a little more consistency," Calhoun said. "I think a good chunk of that probably is having a little more age, and just getting more first team reps."
The Falcons come into the game having won 14 straight home openers against unranked teams dating back 1994. Their only opening game losses in the past decade came in Tennessee in 2004 and at home against Cal in 2004.
Kick-off is set for noon Saturday at Falcon Stadium.
