EVERGREEN, Colo. (AP) - Three fires are burning in Jefferson County, including one that has evacuated homes and diverted buses taking students home from school.
Jefferson County sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said Friday a fire in Evergreen by Squaw Pass Road has grown to 40 acres, prompting evacuations in the Soda Creek subdivision. Officials used an automated alert system to call 271 phones. It wasn't immediately known how many homes were evacuated. Kelley says firefighters actively protected at least three homes. Kelley says some resources fighting that fire were diverted to respond to reports of a second fire on Snow Valley Road, off of North Turkey Creek and U.S. 285.
She says another small fire is burning near Maxwell Falls. She says it's unclear whether a downed power line there started that fire.
