Three children injured by blast in Ellicott

EL PASO COUNTY - Three children were injured by an explosion on a property in Ellicott last night. It happened at around 8:20 p.m. in the backyard behind of home in the 800 block of Biggs Road.

The children, who are believed to be middle school aged, were all taken to the hospital with unspecific injuries. Neighbors reported hearing a small explosion.

A camper parked behind the home was damaged. The mother was with her kids when fire fighters arrived.

Ellicott Fire Department spokesman John Scorsine said the family had already doused most of the flames caused by the blast.

"The residents had pretty well knocked it down. Our crews basically mopped it up and made sure the scene was rendered safe," Scorsine said.

Arson investigators with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office are looking into the situation.
