Thousands of people will have a Merry Christmas thanks to the Bob Telmosse Foundation which held its 31st Annual Bob Telmosse Christmas Giveaway on Saturday.
Starting early in the morning thousands of people lined up outside the Freedom Financial Services Expo Center. Each child got the chance to pick out a free toy, stocking stuffers, a gift for their parents and the chance to win a bike. The giveaway was started by local businessman Bob Telmosse and it is supplied by donations from the community. It's also unique in that people don't have to present proof of need to benefit.
"It was important to Bob that we help people that were in need and he didn't want to have questions asked," explained Tom Zurenko, who sits on the foundation's board of directors. "Bob said, 'if you need help he wanted to help you,' so that's what we've continued."
Parents and their kids were overjoyed by the event.
"Absolutely wonderful and meaningful," described parent Natasha Andersen. "The kids don't have much with these years of hard times so it's really good to give them anything we can get."
Families also got a free turkey and everything needed to make a traditional Christmas dinner.
