Lockheed Martin has announced that 3,000 employees were furloughed on October 7th, as a result of the government shutdown.
They say the number of employees will increase weekly in the event of a prolonged shutdown. It includes employees who are unable to work because the facility where they work at is closed.
Marillyn A. Hewson, Lockheed Martin Chief Executive Officer and President, said "I'm disappointed that we must take these actions and we continue to encourage our lawmakers to come together to pass a funding bill that will end this shutdown."
There are two Lockheed Martin locations in Colorado Springs.
