Thinking about setting off fireworks this weekend in Colorado Springs? Think again.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department will be running patrols through Monday; they'll be confiscating fireworks and issuing tickets.
The department wants to remind people that fireworks are illegal in Colorado Springs and fire conditions have been extremely high. They say a fire started by fireworks threatening property is a crime of arson. You can receive a fine of up to $500 dollars and up to 90 days in jail for possession, use, or the sale of fireworks.
CSFD has set up drop-off boxes at all 20 fire stations around the city where you can leave fireworks for no penalty.
