"The reason I do it now is because I heard it was okay to do it." says one of hundreds of hikers on "The Incline" on a warm Thursday afternoon. A lot more people are using the challenging work out spot lately, but the plan to remove restrictions that prohibit using it is a long way from a done deal.
Around a year ago an agreement was announced starting the process of making it a public recreation area. Because so many people use the popular hiking spot, many assume it is now legal. "It is posted," says Aimee Cox with Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation. I
Currently a complex process of agreements between cities and private land owners is in the workers. Two grants have been secured to cover all the costs. A consultant has been hired to create a management plans. "Out there researching the issues, doing the appropriate studies, they're bringing engineers on board," says Cox.
The first public input meeting is June 24th at Manitou Springs City Hall. It will take until February 2011 for a finalized plan.
