The Eightmile Fire is now 10 percent contained, but fire conditions expected to worsen

The total number of acres burned in the Eightmile Fire is around 500.

The fire continues to burn six miles northeast from Canon City, but on Sunday morning officials say that the fire is 10 percent contained.

Fire conditions are expected to worsen Sunday and Monday. Fremont County is under a Red Flag Warning. There is a threat of the fire spreading to the northeast because of dry weather, hot temperatures and high winds.

The fire was caused by a lightning strike on Monday.

Sixteen residences in the Red Rocks Subdivision remain in pre-evacuation status. Phantom Canyon Road remains closed between mile-markers 4.5 and 12.1.
