An experimental solar-powered plane whose creators hope will someday be able to fly around the world using only solar energy took off for its first test flight Wednesday.
The Solar Impulse took off from an airfield in Switzerland for a 24-hour test flight. The goal is to be able to fly overnight on solar power stored in its batteries.
The test flight was supposed to happen last week, but was delayed due to an equipment problem.
If all goes well this time, developers hope the next test flight will be a crossing of the Atlantic.
