Tensions simmer in Ferguson

Violence erupted in the streets of Ferguson, Missouri for a fourth straight night Wednesday when police fired tear gas and smoke bombs at hundreds of demonstrators who had gathered to protest the police shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown.

More than a dozen people were arrested Wednesday night, including St. Louis Alderman Antonio French, who says he was sitting in his car observing the scene when officers moved in.

"I think they are trying to take a heavy handed approach to squash these protests," French said.

At one point it looked like tear gas was fired directly at a television crew. Officers also detained two print journalists.

"They through me up against the soda machine , the put me in handcuffs or plastic restraints," said Washington Post Reporter Wesley Lowery.

Police still haven't released the name of the officer who shot Brown, citing concerns for his safety.
