At Fanzz Sports Apparel in the Citadel Mall, manager James Stephens has kept the store well stocked with Tim Tebow merchandise.
"I've been here for eight years and I have not seen the excitement and just buzz over one athlete in this store than Tim Tebow," Stephens said.
That buzz is getting louder this week after the Broncos quarterback orchestrated a pair of touchdown drives to bring the team within two points of tying the Chargers Sunday. Later in the 4th quarter, San Diego kicked a field goal and expanded their lead.
Broncos fans on the KOAA5 Facebook page gave the second year player out of the University of Florida a mixed review.
Diana Coca wrote, "I was at the game and he was a huge spark! It was exciting to watch someone really trying to win!" Meanwhile, Jim Godec said, "people are so blinded by his persona and charm that they fail to take an objective look at his actual talent level."
It's hard to argue with Tebow's persona. His facebook page has over 630,000 fans, more people than the population of El Paso County and almost three times the number of John Elway facebook fans. Last month, some of those die-hard fans even paid to put up a billboard in Denver pleading with coach Fox to start him.
Regardless of how the season pans out, Stephens expects Tebow Mania to continue to be good for business, in part because of what he represents.
"They want their kids to have a role model, somebody they can look up to and this young man is about as genuine as it gets."
The Broncos have a bye this weekend and will fly to Miami to take on the Dolphins on October 23. Coach Fox isn't expected to say who the starter will be until his weekly news conference on Tuesday.
