Teacher faces battery complaint

A Pueblo teacher faces a charge of battery in an altercation that happened Tuesday at East High School.

New First had reported yesterday that David Ramirez, the head football coach at East, had been placed on paid leave pending a school district investigation.

A police officer confirmed the details this morning.  He said a police investigation showed an 18-year-old student had been verbally disrespectful to Ramirez.  According to the report Ramirez put the student on the ground.  The student complained of pain though there was no visible injury.  The incident was witnesses by as many as nine people.

Ramirez must now appear in municipal court to face the battery charge.  The school district will probably no complete its investigation until the court case is settled.
