Tight budgets have lawmakers looking everywhere for areas needing reform.

Saturday, State Representative Dennis Apuan and State Senator John Morse held a meeting discussing our correctional system.

Apuan says in 1985 we were spending around $70 million a year on corrections, and now its more than $700 million.

"We would like to take a closer look at that disparity and see how we can make reform in our prison system," says Representative Apuan.

The meeting also covered the issue of racial profiling.

When asked about the possibility of selling the multi-million dollar maximum-security facility near Canon City, which is currently empty, Apuan says he's not in favor of privatizing it or any other maximum-security prisons.
