The New Mexico Department of Health has announced that an infant girl from Roosevelt County and an elementary school student from Rio Rancho have died as a result of the H1N1 swine flu virus.

The student attended Rio Rancho Elementary School.

No further information on the student was released by the school.

The girl was five years old, according to the department of health.

An e-mail sent to district employees said that the girl is the daughter of a district employee.

The department of health said neither child had a chronic medical condition.
