SUV slams into Indiana daycare center

A sport-utility vehicle that may have been involved in a police chase crashed into an Indianapolis day care center, possibly injuring children, NBC News reported.

It was unclear how many children were involved.

Multiple ambulances were called about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday to the scene of Stepping Stones Child Care on the city's north side, police said.

Police Sgt. Matthew Mount said it appeared that the vehicle was involved in an armed robbery and was part of a police chase before crashing into the day care center. Mount said details of what happened weren't immediately known and that police were investigating.

Television images showed a red SUV that had slammed through a brick wall. Ambulances and fire trucks were parked around the building. At least a few people were being taken away on stretchers.

A voicemail message at the day care said they center cares for children from six weeks to 12 years of age.
